Message I spent a year there after high school, then moved there with my wife years later for 3 years. Oz is a great country and I would go back in a minute. Cost of living is higher, pace of life is noticeably slower, can't complain about the weather, just ignore the politics. Depending on what your skills are, getting a job can be next to impossible, or very easy. If you have skills that are in demand down there like computer skills or any medical skills, you have a job. In general, the less marketable skills you have, the harder it will be to get a job. Oz is a very unionized place which means that there is an official but unannounced policy to hire local Australians first, out of town Australians next. This policy gets more strident the further you get from the main population centers. Forget trying to find a job anywhere in the outback. If you do go, plan on it being an extended vacation with getting a job a bonus. Been there / done that! However you decide to interpret all the advice flying your way, ignore it all and just go. I went through the same "go/no go" decision process and in the end went. It changed my life for the better in so many ways.
